Bernie 2009’s Short Summer Vacation Part 2

REALLY LONG OVERDUE! And its getting hot here in Melbourne!! D8 34 today?! /melts

Finally! My university course is finally over after a very hectic semester two (still have exams though!!)! Doing the final year project among other subjects (yes, I’m looking at you Residential development! D<) has really made me face my laptop/lab computers screens most of my time. Even though it has been 2 weeks since my last class (EVER!), due to assignment extensions which I’m really grateful for, I’m ashamed that I haven’t been able to update this poor blog for the past 3! months.

Anyway, planing to bake a few things like Chocolate Crinkles, a self saucing chocolate pudding among other things. =) May also re-bake some of my older stuff and retake photos, which always make a good post anyway.

So here’s a long over over due post which was supposed to be posted in July but never got around doing it till now….

The Singapore Flyer

Would really love to go up there one day!

Bernie 2009’s Short Summer Vacation Part 1!

Hello all! If anyone was wondering, after my last exam, I flew back to Singapore for a short break and as such have not been able to bake for the majority of July, I took lots of food photos though! The only thing was that I had really limited internet access (which came in a form of a thumb drive modem), so I didn’t have a chance to post my photos until now! =/

This post is also a photo backlog of all the food I’ve tried while I was back in Singapore from Dec to Feb this year. Is it a food journey? I don’t think so, but I definitely had eating sprees. This is not a detailed food review/tasting blog so don’t expect much except food pr0n, but I’ll try to provide addresses if anyone wants to know where these places are.

Bernie makes The Wildwood Brownies!

Made these brownies over the weekend, they are not wild, and they are definitely not made in the woods! Frankly, I don’t even know why they were named that, but I baked them after my last assignment on Monday and then got lazy to type a post on it till now. Heck, its exam period now and I’m writing/editing this post! =/

Bernie eats Pine Gardens’ cakes!

Pine Gardens' 01

After so many years visiting Ang Mo Kio (on my way to Primary School, eating there on weekends or shopping for shampoo at Red Tomato). I’ve finally gotten a slice, or a few slices of the famed Pine Gardens’ cakes on my last trip back to Singapore. Featured in the Straits Times a few times, they are namely famous for their Black Forest cakes.

Bernie celebrates Chinese New Year 2009!

祝大家 新年快乐, 万事如意~

Wishing everyone a Prosperous Lunar New Year 2009

Yep, its me again! Haven’t been able to come online for the past few weeks (which is the whole of January) to blog and now Chinese New Year is here! I’ve just been cleaning up the whole house from top to toe and doing a lot of cooking/baking as well, getting ready for the big day. The house looks sparkling clean and there’s lots to eat!

Lunar New Year 01
Gua Ji, Chocolates, Sweets and my Kueh Lapis and Pineapple Tarts!

On Chinese New Year Eve, I had a wonderful reunion dinner with my family and relatives! Didn’t take photos cause I was too tired to take any after helping out the whole day, which was sad cause there was so much good food on the table. And of course visiting relatives on the first day!

Lunar New Year 02
Abalone for Hee Peow Soup (Fish Maw Soup)

I did the usual baking, this year making the pineapple tarts, trying out Kueh Lapis (Layer Cake) and a new recipe for butter cake (richer and eggier?). Recipes will be posted as soon as possible! You don’t have to wait till CNY to make them, cause they are good all year round!

Once again, wishing all a very Happy Lunar New Year! Signing out!

Bernie has no working camera!

Its been awhile since I’ve baked, have been enjoying my so called ‘two week’ holiday studying lots of Biochemistry and Pharmacology while doing a bit of mucking about. Not only that, the battery charger which I use to charge my camera batteries just gave out one day. And I liked that charger. So here is a backlog of some photos I took earlier in the year, full of random shots~

Bernie’s 2008 Summer Trip Part 2!

Hi everyone! This is the second part of my summer trip, this time over at Seoul, Korea for about 2 – 3 days. It was more of a shopping and eating adventure rather than a sightseeing trip. I overdosed on kimchi and samgyetang but they were none the less delectable and filling, even though it took some time getting used to the taste of some kimchi.

Also here’s a better photo of the Dungenese Crabs cooked rather than the live upside down ones in my previous post. Onwards to Seoul!
